Don't believe in God? DMT will probably change that.

"Disclaimer: Psychedelics are largely illegal substances across the world, and we do not encourage or condone their use where it is against the law. However, we accept that illicit drug use occurs and believe that offering responsible harm reduction information is imperative to keeping people safe. For that reason, this article is designed to enhance the safety of those who decide to use these substances. Psychedelics at the very least should be respected. For the best guidance, consider seeking out legal psychedelic therapy centres"- Resident Writer, Alexander Allen.
DMT and Its Connection to Belief in a Higher Power
A recent study conducted by researchers from Johns Hopkins University has shed light on the effects of the psychedelic drug DMT, often referred to as the "spirit molecule." The study revealed that a significant n

umber of regular DMT users reported developing beliefs in a higher power, such as God or divine beings. This research aimed to explore the intriguing phenomenon of "entity encounter experiences" that users often undergo during DMT trips and how these encounters impact their outlook on life and spirituality.
Exploring the Phenomenon of DMT Entity Encounter Experiences
The study involved an online survey of more than 2,500 individuals who had used DMT, with an average of 14 DMT trips per respondent. The participants described encountering a diverse range of entities during their experiences, including aliens, spirits, angels, demons, gnomes, and fairies. Interestingly, the encounters were mostly described as sentient and benevolent, with many being perceived as sacred. Only a small minority of participants reported encountering judgmental or malicious entities.
The impact of these entity encounters was profound, with 80 percent of respondents admitting that DMT had fundamentally altered their perception of reality. For many, the DMT experience ranked as one of the most spiritually significant and personally meaningful experiences of their lives.

DMT as a Gateway to Spiritual Insights
DMT, also known as N,N-dimethyltryptamine, is considered one of the most powerful hallucinogens on Earth, inducing a dreamlike state that defies adequate verbal description. The experience often resembles a near-death experience, leaving individuals with a newfound spiritual perspective. The study found that approximately 90 percent of users reported improved life satisfaction and wellbeing, while about 80 percent reported finding newfound meaning and purpose in life following their DMT experiences.
Remarkably, almost 70 percent of participants claimed to have received profound insights, messages, or tasks from the entities they encountered during their DMT trips. These messages ranged from predictions about the future to guidance on overcoming addiction or understanding the interconnectedness of all things. Astonishingly, some participants even reported being told that they are God.
Examining the Positive Impact and Ominous Warnings
The majority of participants reported positive outcomes from their DMT use, with only a small percentage experiencing negative changes. However, for some individuals, the psychedelic encounters led to a loss of belief in God, with approximately one in ten becoming atheists and 16 percent becoming agnostic.
Despite the brevity of the DMT experience, lasting only a few minutes, these life-changing encounters with "machine elves from hyperspace," as described by psychedelic ethnobotanist Terence McKenna, have the potential to leave a lasting impact on users.

The Mysteries of DMT
While DMT has been used in various cultural and spiritual practices, there is still much that remains unknown about the substance. Its ability to evoke spiritual openness and facilitate encounters with non-human entities raises intriguing questions. Researchers, including neurobiologist Andrew Gallimore, who has studied DMT, believe that encounters with intelligent entities are a defining characteristic of the DMT experience, often involving beings perceived as friendly.
The Quest for Understanding
The study conducted by Johns Hopkins University offers valuable insights into the connection between DMT use and belief in a higher power. However, the profound metaphysical implications of these encounters demand further research to comprehensively understand their lasting positive effects on individuals' attitudes, moods, and behaviour.
Final Thoughts
The research on DMT's influence on belief in a higher power opens a fascinating window into the mysterious realm of psychedelic experiences. While many users reported spiritual revelations and life-changing encounters with benevolent entities, there is still much to explore in the realm of DMT and its effects on human consciousness. As scientific understanding progresses, we may gain deeper insights into the nature of consciousness, the human experience, and our relationship with the spiritual.
